Funding Institutions

In 2019, the Government officially launched the "Chinese Medicine Development Fund" to foster the development of Hong Kong's Chinese medicine sector and to elevate its overall professional standards. The Fund is overseen by the Chinese Medicine Division of the Health Bureau, with the Hong Kong Productivity Council serving as its implementation agency. Comprising two components—the "Enterprise Support Scheme" and the "Industry Support Scheme"—the Fund is dedicated to benefiting various practitioners and organizations within the Chinese medicine sector. Its scope of funding is diverse, encompassing areas such as talent training, clinic facility enhancements, optimization of quality management systems for proprietary Chinese medicines, technical support for product registration, promotion of Chinese medicine, applied research, and academic studies; thereby driving the holistic development of local Chinese medicine. Beneficiaries include practicing Chinese medicine practitioners, herbal medicine practitioners, Chinese medicine clinics, manufacturers and wholesalers of proprietary Chinese medicines, retailers and wholesalers of Chinese herbal materials, as well as professional societies, trade associations, research institutions, local universities, and educational bodies related to Chinese medicine. This webpage also features an "Industry Support" section, which provides the sector with relevant resources and practical reference materials available for free download and use by "Friends of the Chinese Medicine Development Fund."
