The workshop will explain the basic theories of medicinal cuisine and the principles of modern food technology, using common ingredients as examples to help students understand the concept of food and medicine sharing the same origin from a relatable perspective, and how traditional Chinese medicine culture can be integrated with modern technology to create future foods.


Star anise
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), star anise is primarily used to warm the body, dispel cold, regulate qi, and relieve pain. It can improve symptoms such as abdominal pain due to cold hernia, lower back pain due to kidney deficiency, and vomiting due to stomach cold. It also has stomach-strengthening, bloating-relieving, digestion-aiding, antiviral, circulation-promoting, and antibacterial effects. It can be used as a spice and in food therapy, but those with yin deficiency and excessive fire should use it with caution.
